I got a bit confused looking the conversions overview in an account. There’s a column ‘account optimization’ where two (Mobile app) conversion actions within the segment ‘Purchases’ are categorized as ‘secondary’. It says that secondary conversion actions are not being used for bidding optimization. Also, under the ‘included in account lvl goals’ column, these conversion actions are set to ‘No’. As I understand it, these conversions therefore aren’t taken into account in smart bidding algorithms.
Now when I click some of the campaigns within the account and go over to ‘settings’ -> ‘goals’ i see it has selected ‘Use Account Goal Settings’ (so not ‘Use campaign specific goal settings’). Here it states that ‘The selected goals improve the performance of your campaign’. As I understand it, these conversions therefore ARE taken into account in smart bidding algorithms.
The thing that confuses me it that the selected ‘account goals’ in the campaigns are ‘Purchases (Mobile App)’ and ‘Purchases (Website) ; When hovering over the ‘Purchases (Mobile App)’ goal it also shows the two aforementioned ‘secondary’ conversion actions.
So my question is: do these two conversion actions change the way that bids are made with the bidding optimization or are they just being observed and shown in the ‘all conversions’ column? And if they change the smart bidding algorithm, why aren’t the two conversions displayed as ‘primary’ in the conversion overview, given that ‘account settings’ are being used?
