My wife and I took a road trip to Cape Cod this past week, meeting some good friends, and doing what we always enjoy: laying on the beach, dining out, and treating ice cream as a meal in itself. We also went biking on the Rail Trail, an exhausting and exhilarating act all rolled into one.
As the sweat drips from my entire body and my breathing becomes more labored, and the stiffness in my right hip is felt, I thought on several occasions that it was time to quit. But then I would push on a little further. Then my wife would coax me on and my wheels would spin a little faster.
Whenever we feel challenged or taxed, we question if we should go on. The answer, when promoting a book, is to pedal forward a little further, a little harder. And then some more.
The limits we set for ourselves or accept from another is purely a matter of your frame of mind. Can you continue on? Are you motivated and inspired? Will you ignore exhaustion, pain, and risk? It is all in your head and heart. Keep
When confronted with a challenge, a risk, a loss, or a sacrifice, do what baseball great Yogi Berra had said when he came to a fork in the road: “Take it.”
You just simply do not give up when it comes to book marketing. If something works, do more of it. When something doesn’t work, do it better or change how you are doing it. Or do something else. But don’t delay, avoid, or cease activity, or try something tenuosly and tentatively. You go all in and put yourself out there — wallets stretched, schedules juggled, fully energized, and intensely focused.
No secret formula here.
No genius ideas.
Just work hard and stay devoted to marketing your book.
