Outlier is a bakery, restaurant, and art space located at 38 London Road in Glasgow G1. The venue opened in 2022 after owner Steven Turner, who previously managed various arts venues, converted the building to include a kitchen alongside artist studios. The interior features sparse decor with mustard and dark brown tiles, pale wooden tables, and handwritten price cards.
House-Baked Pastries and Brunch Menu
The establishment is particularly noted for its cake counter, which displays items baked on-site rather than delivered frozen. Early morning queues often form as customers wait for fresh babka, apple crumble, custard cakes, and strawberry pastries. The bakers work behind the counter on long tables, allowing patrons to watch the preparation process.
The brunch menu includes options such as blood peach panzanella with Isle of Wight tomatoes, Toulouse sausage with braised Umbrian lentils, and celery soup with Highland blue cheese. A popular item is the warm house sourdough served with cured sea trout, bronze fennel, and horseradish creme fraiche. The sourdough is accompanied by summer pickles dyed pink using beetroot, which contain cauliflower, onion, and turnip.
Dessert options include jasmine rice pudding dusted with matcha, featuring notes of gooseberry and lime leaf. Other sweet items available throughout the day include chocolate fudge cake with coffee buttercream, cinnamon buns in brown butter frosting, and olive oil cake.
Hearty Sandwiches and Pricing
Outlier serves large portion sandwiches that have drawn attention for their size. The fried chicken thigh sandwich is served on a house milk bun with red harissa, lemon mayo, and ranch dressing. The beef shin toastie is three inches thick, containing meat, smoked cheddar, and fennel jam pressed between slices of tin loaf.
Meals typically cost around £25 per person, excluding drinks and service. The venue is open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 4pm, and Friday and Saturday from 8am to 5pm. Sunday hours are 9am to 5pm. Outlier does not currently have a phone number or website. Plans are in place to open for dinner service from Thursday to Sunday in early 2027.
