President Donald Trump made a high-profile return to the NASCAR scene at the 67th annual Daytona 500 on February 16, 2025, marking his second appearance at the iconic race. Amidst a day filled with adrenaline and patriotism, Trump not only took a ceremonial lap in his heavily armored presidential limousine, “The Beast,” but also delivered a heartfelt message to the NASCAR drivers. His presence at Daytona has reignited discussions among fans and media alike.

    Is Trump at Daytona 500?

This year’s Daytona 500, held at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, saw Trump making a dramatic return. It was his second appearance at the race since 2020, when he served as the grand marshal of the 62nd annual NASCAR event. On Sunday, February 16, 2025, Trump was on hand to lead drivers on ceremonial pace laps ahead of the race. Riding in his heavily armored presidential limousine, famously nicknamed “The Beast,” Trump took a lap around the track, applauding the courage and grit of the NASCAR drivers.

Speaking to FOX Sports’ Jamie Little, he remarked, “They have a lot of guts, as they would say,” before adding, “This is your favorite president. I’m a really big fan of you people.” His message, delivered via radio to the drivers, was heartfelt and reflective of his characteristic style—combining admiration for American competition with a patriotic call to safety and excellence.

Daytona 500 Start Time and Race Delays

The race, known for its electrifying atmosphere and high speeds of nearly 200 mph, was not without its challenges. Due to potential rain, NASCAR officials moved up the Daytona 500 start time by 70 minutes to ensure the track could be dried and deemed safe for racing. After a series of rain delays totaling more than three hours, including a lengthy pause after the initial delay in Turns 1 and 2, the race finally resumed under the lights, adding to the drama of the event.

    A Showcase of American Pride

Before arriving in Daytona Beach, Florida, Trump issued a statement lauding the event as a celebration of American tradition, competition, and automotive innovation. “This iconic race showcases the fastest, most fearless drivers in motorsports,” the statement read. Trump emphasized that the Daytona 500 is not only about speed but also about the unyielding spirit that makes America great—a sentiment that he believes will fuel the nation’s “Golden Age.” This message struck a chord with both longtime NASCAR fans and first-time spectators, who came together to celebrate a shared passion for speed and adrenaline.

    Family and High-Profile Attendance

Alongside Trump, several members of his inner circle were present at Daytona 500. Notably, his son Eric Trump, daughter-in-law Lara Trump and his grandson Luke Trump, with other close associates like Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy attended the race, reinforcing the family’s ongoing involvement in major national events. However, First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump were notably absent from the Daytona 500, with family appearances more limited compared to previous years.

Trump’s attendance at Daytona 500 comes on the heels of his participation in other marquee events, including Super Bowl LIX, where he became the first sitting president to attend the football classic. These appearances are part of a broader strategy to maintain high visibility in the national spotlight, leveraging sporting events to underscore his political messaging.

Trump’s appearance at the Daytona 500 was a blend of high-octane sports action and patriotic rhetoric. By taking a ceremonial lap in “The Beast” and delivering a stirring message to NASCAR’s bravest, Trump reaffirmed his commitment to celebrating American ingenuity and competitive spirit.
