Rachael Lillis: The Voice of a Generation
Rachael Lillis first rose to fame in the late 1990s as the voice of Misty, a Water Pokémon Trainer/Master, and Jessie, one of the infamous members of Team Rocket, in the English-dubbed version of the Pokémon anime series. Her performances quickly became iconic, solidifying her as a cornerstone of the Pokémon franchise. Over the years, Lillis voiced these characters in various Pokémon movies and video games, including Pokémon: The First Movie, Pokémon: The Movie 2000, and the original Super Smash Bros.

Lillis’ voice work on Pokémon extended beyond Misty and Jessie. She also brought to life the character of Jigglypuff, a fan-favorite Pokémon known for its lullaby that puts others to sleep. Her ability to imbue each character with unique personalities made her an integral part of the series’ success and a beloved figure among fans.
A Legacy Beyond Pokémon
Though she was best known for her work on Pokémon, Rachael Lillis had an extensive career in voice acting that spanned multiple anime series, video games, and animated films. Some of her notable roles included Utena Tenjô in Revolutionary Girl Utena, Catty in Gall Force, and various characters in Hunter x Hunter and Your Lie in April. Her versatility as a voice actress allowed her to take on a wide range of characters, from heroic figures to cunning villains.

Her colleagues remember her not just for her talent, but also for her kindness and dedication. Rachael Lillis’ Battle with Cancer

Despite the challenges she faced, she remained deeply appreciative of the support she received from her fans and loved ones. Her sister Laurie Orr shared that Lillis passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and love.

“Hello everyone,
With a heavy heart, I regret to say that Rachael has passed away. She passed peacefully Saturday night, without pain, and for that we are grateful.
She is with God, the angels, and family that has passed before her, surrounded by infinite Love.Unfortunately, regrettably, I was not with her, it was just this past week that she was starting to decline. This was unexpected and we are completely grief-stricken.
We ask for peace, for now, as her family grieves this loss.
Rachael (“Rae” as we called her) was a beautiful, smart, talented person with a kind heart who was so moved by all of you! (I would forward emails and comments to her, just in case she missed any!)
She likened the response to this fund to the movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life”, when George is surprised to learn just how much he is loved by his friends, and how much they Do care!
She was moved to tears when seeing the GFM page with your comments & kind thoughts. She remembered many of you that she happily met at conventions, for instance, and related stories to us about the experience and all the people she appreciated meeting!
All of us have been so moved by the responses from all of You!
Funds donated for Rachael will go to any medical bills remaining, a memorial service for her, and causes in her name-specifically toward efforts to combat cancer.
My heart breaks losing my dear little sister, though I am comforted knowing she is free.
God Bless you All- with Love, Health, and Peace, Laurie”
Laurie Orr, Rachael Lillis’ sister.
