Andrzej Sapkowski has confirmed he is working on the next entry in the Witcher series. The author stated that he expects to finish writing the new book by the end of 2027. According to the news site Redanian Intelligence, the upcoming story will once again feature Geralt as the central character.

    Geralt Returns as Central Character

Sapkowski made the announcement during a recent convention appearance in Poland. He clarified that he does not intend to write future Witcher books focusing on other characters, such as Yennefer. This decision keeps the narrative centered on the monster hunter, who has been the protagonist of the series since its inception.

The latest release in the series was The Witcher: Crossroads of Ravens, published in 2025. That book served as a prequel, detailing young Geralt’s first major adventure as a Witcher. With Geralt depicted as middle-aged in the original short story collections and novels, there remains a significant portion of his life that has not yet been explored in print.

    Future Plans and Short Stories

When asked by IGN if there is room to explore Geralt’s formative years further through additional prequels, Sapkowski responded that the “sky is the limit.” He also mentioned that he is considering writing more short stories for the franchise. The Witcher series originally began with short stories, and Sapkowski published two collections before releasing the first novel, Blood of Elves.

Despite the potential for more prequels, Sapkowski noted that crafting short stories presents a unique challenge. He told IGN that creating a good short story is much more difficult than writing a novel. This sentiment highlights the author’s careful approach to expanding the universe without diluting the quality of the existing material.

While the specific format of the next book has not been explicitly defined as a novel or a collection, Sapkowski is aiming to complete the manuscript by the end of next year. Redanian Intelligence reported that Polish readers could have access to the new book by late 2027 or early 2028, assuming Sapkowski meets his deadline.

International readers may need to wait longer for the release. Based on the release schedule for Crossroads of Ravens, global audiences could receive the book approximately one year after the Polish edition. This timeline suggests an international availability in late 2028 or early 2029.

The announcement comes at a time when Witcher fans have several other projects to anticipate. These include a remaster of The Witcher 3, the Songs of the Past expansion, and The Witcher 4, which is expected to launch sometime in 2028. The franchise, which includes both the iconic book series and the popular Netflix show, continues to grow with new content from its original creator.
