Apple is preparing to introduce a significant hardware shift with its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The company plans to hold an event on or around October 27 to unveil the new laptop and an updated iPad Mini.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of Apple’s October 13 event, which is rumored to focus on smart home products. The late October gathering will feature both an online video presentation and an in-person component for the press, mirroring the format of the earlier event.

New MacBook Pro Features OLED Screens
The upcoming MacBook Pro models represent a major departure from Apple’s current laptop lineup, which has resisted touch input for decades. Bloomberg reports that the new devices will feature OLED displays, a technology known for its deep blacks and high contrast ratios. These screens will also include a Dynamic Island interface, similar to the notch design found on recent iPhone models.
Apple is reportedly working on two distinct versions of the new laptop. One version will feature a lighter design compared to existing models. The other will retain the current chassis but will be powered by the M6 chip, which was recently introduced with the new Mac Mini.
The introduction of a touchscreen on a laptop is a notable change for the Mac ecosystem. It marks the first time Apple has integrated direct touch interaction into its primary professional computing devices, potentially altering how users interact with macOS.

iPad Mini Receives Camera and Audio Upgrades
Alongside the laptops, Apple is updating the iPad Mini, which last saw a refresh in 2024. The new model will shift the front-facing camera to the landscape side of the tablet. This change is designed to improve video conferencing experiences when the device is held horizontally.
Bloomberg also notes that the new iPad Mini will include a revamped speaker system. These audio improvements aim to enhance media consumption and call quality for users of the compact tablet.

The combination of these updates suggests Apple is targeting both professional users seeking new display technologies and casual users looking for improved portability and media features. The October 27 event will serve as the primary launch platform for these products.
