Marvel Rivals: A Fusion of Marvel Heroes and Overwatch Vibes
The premise of Marvel Rivals is as intriguing as it is captivating. Picture this: a 6v6 team-based shooter where players take on the roles of their favorite Marvel superheroes and supervillains. The game features a diverse roster of characters, including beloved icons like Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Magneto, alongside lesser-known gems such as Luna Snow and Peni Parker.
The Overwatch Influence: A Third-Person Marvel Adventure
Marvel Rivals borrows elements from popular hero shooters like Overwatch, offering players a blend of fast-paced action and strategic gameplay. With destructible environments and dynamic maps inspired by iconic Marvel locations like Asgard and Tokyo 2099, every match promises to be a thrilling adventure.
What sets Marvel Rivals apart is its innovative Team-Up Moves mechanic. Players can combine the unique abilities of their chosen characters to execute devastating attacks and turn the tide of battle in their favor. Whether it’s Rocket Raccoon riding on Groot’s shoulders or the Hulk empowering Iron Man’s repulsors, the possibilities for epic synergies are endless.
A Stellar Development Team: Call of Duty and Battlefield Veterans at the Helm
Marvel Rivals is helmed by a team of seasoned developers with experience in acclaimed franchises like Call of Duty and Battlefield. Thaddeus Sasser, the game director, brings over 20 years of expertise to the table, ensuring that Marvel Rivals delivers a polished and engaging experience for players.
“Being able to play as your favorite hero in a multiplayer game is something that was super appealing to me, and I think it’s something that appeals to a lot of players. Think about some of the famous characters from Marvel comics — there’s a whole list of things you can start to imagine happening in the game. Also, having magical superpowers in a multiplayer game is something that hasn’t really been done to death. It’s still kind of relatively fresh and new, and the way we’re doing it, and some of the tricks we’ve got up our sleeves should be pretty exciting for new players.”
Thaddeus Sasser, game director on Marvel Rivals, told Polygon in an interview.
