First Look at the Thunderbolts Trailer
Marvel Studios recently dropped the much-anticipated Thunderbolts trailer, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect. The movie brings together a team of anti-heroes, led by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, who is grappling with the loss of her sister, Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson). The trailer opens with Yelena visiting her father, Red Guardian (David Harbour), setting a somber tone for the movie. It quickly escalates into action as the team members, including Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), try to make sense of their new alliance.
One highlight of the trailer is the unexpected introduction of Bob, also known as Sentry, played by Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman. Sentry is one of Marvel’s most powerful and complex characters, bringing a new dynamic to the already chaotic team.
The Thunderbolts cast is star-studded, with several familiar faces from the MCU returning for this installment. Florence Pugh reprises her role as Yelena Belova, taking on a leadership position in this ragtag team of anti-heroes.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus also returns as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who seems to be pulling the strings behind the scenes. The chemistry between these characters promises both action and comedic moments, especially with the clashing personalities of Red Guardian and U.S. Agent.
Bob Thunderbolts: Meet Marvel’s Sentry
The character of Sentry, a.k.a. Bob, is a fascinating addition to The Thunderbolts lineup. For those unfamiliar with the comics, Sentry is often considered Marvel’s version of Superman. Robert Reynolds, Sentry’s alter ego, gained incredible powers after being exposed to a super-soldier serum, making him nearly invincible. He possesses immense strength, speed, invulnerability, and even the ability to manipulate molecules.
However, Sentry’s powers come with a dark twist: his connection to the Void, an evil entity that threatens to destroy everything. The character’s mental instability and inner conflict make him a wildcard in the Thunderbolts storyline. Lewis Pullman steps into the role after Steven Yeun had to exit due to scheduling conflicts, and fans are eager to see how Pullman interprets this layered character.
Thunderbolts Plot and the Sentry’s Role
While Marvel has kept much of the plot under wraps, the trailer hints at internal conflicts within the Thunderbolts team. Each character comes with a dark past, as Yelena notes in the trailer, “Everyone here has done bad things.” It’s clear that these anti-heroes will initially struggle to work together, and their first meeting involves them fighting each other.
However, the introduction of Bob/Sentry changes the dynamic. Sentry, who appears initially bewildered by the team’s arrival, brings a whole new set of problems. His sheer power and connection to the Void make him a potential threat not only to the Thunderbolts but to the world. The question remains: Will Sentry be an ally or a villain?
Controversial Poster: Six-Finger Sentry !?
In addition to the trailer, Marvel also released a poster for Thunderbolts, but it didn’t go unnoticed that the poster features a glaring error. Fans quickly pointed out that Bob/Sentry has six fingers on one hand. Speculation arose that the poster might have been altered by AI, sparking debates over Marvel’s use of technology in its promotional materials. Whether it was a simple oversight or an AI-related mishap, the six-fingered Sentry remains a quirky detail.
Marvel Sentry and The Next Phase for The MCU
Sentry’s introduction into the MCU opens the door to exciting possibilities. His immense powers and tragic backstory provide a lot of material for future MCU projects. Whether the Thunderbolts movie will fully explore the Void and Sentry’s mental struggles is yet to be seen, but his presence is sure to shake things up in the Marvel Universe.
With Thunderbolts set to hit theaters on May 2, 2025, fans are eagerly awaiting more information about the plot, the mysterious asterisk in the movie’s title, and how Bob/Sentry will impact the MCU moving forward.
