OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Terra on Monday, a new artificial intelligence model designed to lower costs for businesses handling large volumes of data. The company stated that the standard application programming interface (API) prices for this model are 50% lower than those for GPT-5.6 Terra and GPT-6.1 Sol.
The release aims to make AI more practical for routine enterprise tasks. According to the company, the model is well-suited for automating high-volume work such as reading invoices and entering their information into accounting software. It also performs well in communication and computer-based tasks, including drafting proposals, interpreting technical drawings, filling out forms, and editing videos.

Enterprise Automation Focus
OpenAI positioned the new model as a significant upgrade from its predecessor, GPT-5.6 Terra. The company emphasized that the update provides a new balance of speed, capability, and cost. In a press release, the company noted that the model continues to advance the cost-intelligence frontier across its model families.
This launch follows a broader strategy to improve performance per dollar for enterprise workloads. In July, OpenAI adjusted the pricing for its previous model family. The company cut the price of GPT-5.6 Luna by 80% and reduced the price of GPT-5.6 Terra by 20%. At the same time, it provided faster performance for GPT-5.6 Sol while keeping its price unchanged.
OpenAI stated at that time that the changes allowed businesses to apply the maximum useful intelligence at every stage while paying the right price for the value it creates. The new GPT-6.1 Terra model expands these choices further for enterprise users.

Availability and Revenue Growth
The model is available to Plus, Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex. Developers can also access it through the OpenAI API. ChatGPT Work, launched in July, is designed for complex tasks that go beyond typical chat requests. The product can take action across a user’s apps and files, spend hours on a project, and produce finished materials such as sheets, slides, and web apps.
The push toward enterprise automation aligns with OpenAI’s growing revenue. Bloomberg reported on Oct. 9 that the company’s enterprise business is driving gains in annualized revenue. The company expects annualized revenue to reach at least $70 billion by the end of the year, up from $50 billion at the end of September.

OpenAI continues to refine its model lineup to meet the specific needs of business customers. The introduction of GPT-6.1 Terra offers a lower-cost option for companies looking to automate repetitive tasks without sacrificing performance.
