Pokémon Go is hosting a Zorua Community Day event on Saturday, October 10. The event runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in local time zones. This specific event features only the original Unovan form of Zorua. The Hisuian variants, which are Normal and Ghost types, will not appear during this window.
Shiny Zorua Hunting Strategies
Zorua has a unique mechanic that mimics the player’s current buddy Pokémon. It will appear disguised as whatever creature is set in the buddy slot. Once caught, it transforms into its true form. This disguise mechanic requires players to be vigilant when scanning the map.
During the three-hour window, Zorua will spawn in high numbers. According to historical data from The Silph Road, the shiny rate for Community Day events is approximately 1 in 24. This probability suggests that consistent play throughout the event should yield multiple shiny encounters.
Players with limited resources can use Incense to increase spawn rates. A common strategy involves tapping each Zorua to check for the shiny sparkle effect. Any Zorua that is not shiny can be released immediately. Tapped Zorua will face the player, which helps track which creatures have already been checked.
To speed up the process, players can set a Zorua as their buddy. This action skips the initial “Oh?” animation, allowing for faster catches. Quick catching also bypasses this delay, which is useful when dealing with large clusters of spawns.
Zoroark Moveset and Evolution Window
Evolving Zorua into Zoroark during the event window of 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. grants the Pokémon the fast move Sucker Punch. This move is exclusive to this evolution period. If players miss this window, they have two options to obtain the move.
The first option is to wait for a Community Day weekend event in December. These events typically allow players to evolve Pokémon to receive the exclusive move. The second option is to use an Elite TM. This item allows for immediate move changes without waiting for future events.
Zoroark is not considered a top-tier performer in raids or PvP battles. While it can be configured with Sucker Punch and Foul Play, it lacks the power to compete in high-level PvE or PvP content. Players should evolve it primarily for collection purposes or to complete specific research tasks.
Event Bonuses and Lure Modules
Several bonuses are active during the Zorua Community Day. Players should activate a Lucky Egg to maximize experience points gained from catches and evolutions. Incense is also recommended to boost spawn rates in the immediate area.
Using a Mega Evolved Pokémon increases the candy yield per catch. The following Mega Evolutions provide this bonus: Gyarados, Houndoom, Tyranitar, Sableye, Sharpedo, Absol, Greninja, and Malamar. Activating any of these forms will result in additional Zorua Candy.
Scopely Explore is continuing its Lure Module Bonus. Placed Lure Modules will spawn Zorua in high numbers from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. This increased spawn rate continues even after the main event ends at 5 p.m. Players can still encounter shiny Zorua or those with special backgrounds from lures after the official window closes.
For players aiming to complete Masterwork Research or other catch-based tasks, setting a buddy with a large catch ring is advisable. Pokémon such as Snorlax, Wailmer, or Gourgeist are recommended for this purpose. This setup helps players land excellent throws more consistently.
