Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog have officially announced that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will launch on February 12, 2027. The reveal came during the TR30 Derby and MCM London events, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the original game’s release on the Sega Saturn. The remake aims to modernize the 1996 classic while preserving its core identity, offering players a blend of nostalgic exploration and contemporary action mechanics.
Modernized Gameplay and Classic Locations
The newly released footage highlights four primary settings: Peru, Greece, Egypt, and the mythical city of Atlantis. Viewers saw Lara Croft navigating these environments with updated graphics that bring the original’s 3D platforming to life. Key moments from the source material remain intact, including the giant Atlas puzzle and encounters with Atlantean monsters. One sequence demonstrated the consequences of interacting with King Midas’ statue, showing Lara transformed into gold using modern visual effects.
While the visual fidelity has been significantly upgraded, the gameplay structure has also evolved. The remake introduces a “Focus” meter that builds as players deal damage, take hits, or dodge attacks. According to game director Raul Siquera, this mechanic allows players to slow down time, creating opportunities to execute Lara’s iconic acrobatic moves. This system replaces the original’s more rigid movement with a fluid action framework that includes skill trees and crafting options.
Release Platforms and Pre-order Incentives
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be available on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X. Players who pre-order the game can choose between Lara’s classic shorts and tank top outfit or the attire from the Survivor trilogy. Those who purchase the deluxe or collector’s editions will receive 48 hours of early access to the game.

The announcement also touched on the future of the franchise. Crystal Dynamics confirmed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst is currently in development and is also scheduled for a 2027 release. This new title will take Lara Croft to Northern India, following a mythical cataclysm that awakens ancient forces. The studio has positioned this upcoming project as a bold new direction for the series, distinct from the remake of Legacy of Atlantis.
The delay of Legacy of Atlantis to 2027 has allowed the development teams to refine the game’s mechanics and ensure it meets modern standards without losing the charm of the original. The combination of updated visuals, new gameplay systems, and faithful level design suggests a comprehensive reimagining of one of the most influential titles in gaming history.
