Lampedusa Island Tragedy

On Monday, rescue workers discovered the bodies of ten suspected migrants trapped below the deck of a wooden boat off Lampedusa Island. The wooden boat had departed from Libya, carrying migrants from Syria, Egypt, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. Twelve survivors were rescued and brought to the port of Roccella Jonica, but one of them died shortly after arrival. Reports from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) indicated that 64 people are still missing, including 26 children, some of whom were only a few months old. Survivors recounted that they had no life vests and had been taking on water for several days. The nationalities of those on board included people from Iran, Syria, and Iraq.
