Samsung Electronics has announced a significant update to its Samsung Health app, designed to make sleep management more accessible and running training more advanced. The company lowered the entry barrier for its Samsung Health Sleep Coaching feature, allowing users to begin personalized guidance with less historical data. The update also introduces deeper integration with the fitness platform Strava and expands training levels for runners.
Sleep Coaching Requires Less Data
Previously, users needed seven days of sleep data within a month to activate the coaching program. Samsung has reduced this requirement to just three days of data collected within the past two weeks. This change aims to help users start building healthier sleep habits sooner, without waiting for a full week of tracking.

Upon starting the program, users complete a survey covering sleep regularity, interruptions, caffeine and alcohol consumption, and overall satisfaction. The app combines these responses with the three days of sleep data to assign a personalized Sleep Animal symbol. This symbol serves as a visual guide for a tailored coaching program that lasts between four and eight weeks.
The program adapts weekly based on user progress. It provides daily habit checklists and tips rooted in behavioral sleep science. Recommendations include avoiding screens before bed, limiting late caffeine, and stretching after waking. The app tracks daily sleep satisfaction and lifestyle shifts to adjust its guidance dynamically.

Samsung also introduced a new pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph. This visual tool consolidates five key metrics: sleep time, sleep regularity, awake time during the night, sleep satisfaction, and the Energy Score. Morning insight messages review the previous night’s sleep and offer tips, linking daily actions to long-term trends.
Running Coach and Strava Integration
The update also enhances the Running Coach feature. Samsung expanded the training tiers from 10 to 12 levels. This addition supports intermediate and advanced runners who want to set higher benchmarks and challenge their performance. The app still generates personalized plans based on a 12-minute running test or historical running data.
To support motivation, Samsung improved the social sharing capabilities. Runners can now export workout data into templates optimized for various social media platforms. This allows users to easily share milestones, personal records, and route highlights with their fitness communities.

A key addition is the integration with Strava, a global fitness platform. Users can import their favorite Strava Routes for running, trail running, and cycling directly into Samsung Health. This partnership aims to improve compatibility and convenience for users who track activities across both services.
Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of the Digital Health Team for the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, stated that the personalized coaching empowers users to understand their health data. He emphasized the company’s goal to build a trusted health platform using the Galaxy ecosystem.

These features will roll out progressively via Samsung Health app updates starting in October. The changes apply to users seeking better sleep hygiene and runners looking for structured training plans.
