UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov recently faced an unexpected situation when he was removed from a Frontier Airlines flight following a disagreement over seating arrangements. The incident, initially misattributed to Alaska Airlines, unfolded at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, sparking widespread discussion and outrage on social media.
Why Was Khabib Removed?

The conflict began when Khabib, seated in an exit row, was approached by a flight attendant questioning his readiness to assist in an emergency. Despite confirming that he spoke “very decent English” and fully understood the responsibilities of sitting in the exit row, the staff expressed doubt.
A viral video shows a flight attendant telling Khabib, “We cannot allow you to sit in the exit row… I’ll go call a supervisor.” In response, Khabib stated, “It’s not fair,” and questioned why he was being singled out despite following all procedures during check-in.
When Khabib declined to change his seat, security was called, and the UFC Hall of Famer was escorted off the plane.
The UFC Legend Speaks Out About the Incident
Following the incident, Khabib addressed the matter on X (formerly Twitter). He described the flight attendant’s demeanor as rude and questioned whether racial or national bias played a role in the decision.
“Lady who comes to me with questions was very rude from the very beginning. Even though I speak very decent English and can understand everything and agreed to assist, she still insists on removing me from my seat. What was the base for that—racial, national, or other one, I’m not sure.”
Khabib revealed that after a 90-minute delay, he rebooked a flight with another airline and reached his destination.
Where Was Khabib Flying To?
Khabib Nurmagomedov, who retired from MMA in 2021 with an undefeated 29-0 record, remains a prominent figure in the UFC world. He was traveling to California to support his teammates Islam Makhachev and Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 311 in Los Angeles.
His manager, Ali Abdelaziz, praised Khabib for his composed handling of the situation, saying:
“Some things happen to you maybe in a negative way, but Khabib always comes out on top because of his mannerism and his class.”
Alaska Airlines Clarify Involvement
Initially, some reports claimed the incident occurred on an Alaska Airlines flight. However, the airline promptly issued a statement clarifying that Nurmagomedov was not on one of their flights.
“We have seen media reports with a video showing a passenger being asked to leave an aircraft, incorrectly identifying it as an Alaska Airlines flight. We have checked our records and did not have this individual on an Alaska Airlines flight that day.”
This mix-up led to confusion on social media, with Alaska Airlines receiving unwarranted backlash before the correction was made.
Frontier Airlines Now Under Fire
Though the incident was confirmed to have occurred on a Frontier Airlines flight, the airline has yet to release an official statement. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has called for an investigation into the airline’s conduct, citing potential racial or national bias in how the situation was handled.
As public scrutiny mounts, Frontier Airlines faces calls for greater transparency and an explanation of its handling of the incident. Khabib’s calm demeanor during the ordeal has drawn widespread praise, further amplifying calls for fair treatment of passengers, especially those from diverse backgrounds.
Airlines need to adopt policies that prioritize respect and fairness, ensuring that no passenger feels unfairly targeted.
