Robert Downey Jr. has signed on as the lead spokesman for Snap’s Specs augmented reality glasses, bringing his public persona as a tech enthusiast to the wearable device company. The actor-producer-entrepreneur will serve as the face of the product line, which Snap CEO Evan Spiegel unveiled last month.
Downey Jr. has been given the title of honorary Chief Customer Experience Officer for Specs. In this role, he will collaborate across various parts of the Specs organization to explore new capabilities, shape Lens experiences, and develop original content. His involvement extends to working on hardware and in-person experiences, according to Snap.
Campaign Broadcast Schedule
The partnership will make its broadcast debut on Tuesday night during the New York Knicks vs. Philadelphia 76ers NBA tip-off game. This initial rollout is part of a broader marketing push that includes a collection of original episodes featuring Downey Jr. showcasing the technology in everyday situations.
These episodes depict the actor using the glasses while working, golfing, watching television, and developing artistic skills. Viewers can access this content on the Specs website or on YouTube. Additionally, an original episode from Downey Jr.’s content series is scheduled to make its broadcast debut during Game 1 of the World Series on Friday, Oct. 23.
Device Specifications and Pricing
Snap has stated that Specs will begin shipping later this fall. The devices are available for pre-order starting at $2,195 for the WiFi-only version. A model equipped with Verizon 5G connectivity is priced at $2,395.

The glasses respond to voice commands and hand gestures to interact with apps and the surrounding world. Downey Jr. expressed strong approval of the device after testing it. He noted that while he has tried many wearable technologies over the last 20 years and remained largely unimpressed, he was sold on Specs within 40 seconds.
“Trying is believing,” Downey Jr. said in a statement. “The applications are endless.”
Evan Spiegel, Snap’s CEO, commented on the collaboration, noting that Downey Jr. has been imagining the potential of this technology for nearly 20 years. Spiegel described it as an honor to work with the actor to bring that vision to life.
