A physical dummy unit of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra has surfaced, offering the first tangible look at the device’s redesigned exterior. The model, constructed from exclusive CAD files by Android Headlines, highlights a significant shift in the phone’s rear layout, particularly regarding the camera module and its potential compatibility with magnetic accessories.
Redesigned Camera Bar and Magnetic Support
The most prominent change visible on the dummy unit is the repositioning of the camera bar. The module has been moved higher up on the back of the device compared to the current Galaxy S26 Ultra. This adjustment appears intentional, designed to clear space for magnetic accessories such as chargers and battery packs.
Current Samsung flagships support magnetic accessories through Qi2-compatible cases, but the large camera bump often interferes with proper alignment. This misalignment can result in slower charging speeds and excessive heat generation. By raising the camera bar, Samsung may resolve these physical obstructions, allowing for better contact with magnetic mounts.
It remains unclear whether the final device will include built-in Qi2 magnets or rely solely on case compatibility. Samsung has not officially confirmed the internal hardware specifications for the magnetic charging system.
Dimensions and S Pen Retention
The dummy unit retains the S Pen slot at the bottom of the chassis, indicating that the stylus will remain a core feature of the Ultra series. The overall dimensions of the new model are nearly identical to its predecessor. Reports suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra measures 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm, a slight increase from the 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9mm footprint of the S26 Ultra.
Observers note that the dummy unit sits more steadily on flat surfaces than the current model. However, tapping the screen still induces some wobble. Since the dummy lacks the final weight and internal components of the production device, these stability observations are preliminary.
Camera Specifications and Case Compatibility
Rumors surrounding the camera hardware suggest a potential reduction in lens variety. The Galaxy S27 Ultra may drop the 3x telephoto lens, leaving a configuration of a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 50MP 5x telephoto camera. This setup would prioritize higher magnification over intermediate zoom ranges.
The new camera layout bears a resemblance to the design language of the iPhone 18 Pro. This trend toward a unified, elevated camera bar is also appearing in other Android devices, suggesting a broader industry shift toward modular accessory support.
Existing Galaxy S26 Ultra owners should note that the redesigned camera arrangement will likely render current cases incompatible. The altered position of the camera module means that most existing protective covers will not align correctly with the new hardware. Users will likely need to purchase new cases to protect the device.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S27 series in early 2027. The dummy unit provides an early glimpse into one of the most noticeable design changes for the Ultra line in recent years.
