Grand Theft Auto 6 is generating massive commercial momentum before its official launch. New estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower indicate that the game has sold approximately 7.71 million copies in preorders. This volume translates to an estimated $751 million in revenue, despite the title not yet being available to play.
Platform Sales Breakdown
The preorder data reveals a significant disparity between console platforms. PlayStation accounts for 74% of the total sales, while Xbox holds the remaining 26%. Rockstar Games has not officially confirmed these figures, but the estimates highlight the intense demand for the open-world title.
The game is scheduled for release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Fans have been dissecting every trailer and participating in promotional events, such as an alligator-themed Xbox sweepstakes, to build anticipation for the download.
Comparison to 2026 Top Sellers
These preorder numbers place Grand Theft Auto 6 in the conversation for the best-selling games of 2026, even though it is more than two weeks away from launch. Circana, another market tracking firm, publishes year-to-date sales rankings that include major releases like NBA 2K27, Resident Evil: Requiem, 007 First Light, MLB: The Show 26, Crimson Desert, and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
While Circana does not publish total units sold in its public charts, Resident Evil: Requiem has reportedly moved 8.5 million copies. The estimated 7.71 million copies for GTA 6 suggests it is on track to rival or surpass many of the year’s current top sellers. Because the figures come from different tracking sources, they should not be treated as a definitive ranking, but the trajectory is clear.
With just over two weeks remaining until the November 19 launch, those preorder numbers are expected to climb further. If Sensor Tower’s estimates hold true, Grand Theft Auto 6 will stand as one of the biggest commercial releases of the year before it has even officially arrived.
