Miuccia Prada returned to the runway at Paris Fashion Week on Sunday with a collection that deliberately blurred the lines between athletic wear and high fashion. The designer stated that her inspiration came from observing the actual garments people wear for daily errands rather than for social media appearances. She described the current reality of clothing as a mix of sportswear, casual items, and normal wear, aiming to make these everyday pieces more interesting and rich.

The show opened with a series of five neatly pleated checked skirts. The first look paired a matching checked blazer with brightly colored trainers instead of traditional dress shoes. The second look featured a crop top worn under the blazer, completed with spiky high heels. Subsequent looks removed the blazers entirely, clipping the tops to sit just under the bust line.
Later in the presentation, the brand introduced track pants typically associated with lounging, styling them with smart knitwear and tailored jackets. Gym knickers received a similar upgrade, while sports bras were reimagined as sparkly tops suitable for parties rather than workouts. Some of these bras were worn alone, while others were layered over clingy jersey tops. The collection also included a collaboration with Wrangler to rework vintage denim jeans that hung low below the hips, fastened with details that mimicked shoelaces instead of buttons or zips.
Prada described the approach as nonconformist dialogues exploring friction and tension between different clothing genres. This method of clashing styles has helped transform Miu Miu into a near-billion-euro brand. Launched in 1993 as a younger sister label to Prada, the brand has consistently made unconventional items like embellished pants and aprons desirable.
Brand Performance and Cultural Strategy
According to the Lyst index, which ranks brands by quarterly demand, Miu Miu currently sits at number two, just below Chanel. In July, sales increased by three percent to exceed 700 million euros. This growth has occurred within a challenging luxury market, buoyed by the brand’s clear understanding of its target demographic, which it refers to as Miu Miu girls.
The Miu Miu girl archetype is described as someone who likes a look that is slightly odd, messy, and perversely sexy. This identity is not limited by age or gender. The cast for Sunday’s show included actor Emma Corrin in white knickers and a croc jacket, Olivia Colman in a cracked suede skirt suit, and Jamie Bell in low-rise Prince of Wales checked trousers.
Prada noted that the collection aimed to mix elements of sports with sophistication. This focus extends beyond the runway. Earlier this year, the brand partnered with New Balance on a performance wear collection for tennis star Coco Gauff, who wore the items during the Italian Open and Wimbledon. The brand also maintains a literary club exploring works by authors like Simone de Beauvoir and Ama Ata Aidoo. For the past 15 years, it has commissioned female-directed films, including projects by directors Mona Fastvold and Miranda July.
