Stacey Dooley has opened up about a wardrobe malfunction during the Strictly Live tour, revealing that her skirt fell down while she was performing at the O2 arena. The broadcaster, who is currently promoting her new BBC series Clickbait Clinic, also reflected on her teenage years spent shoplifting and her current struggles with anxiety since becoming a mother.
Strictly Live Tour Wardrobe Malfunction
Dooley, 39, admitted that her most embarrassing moment occurred while she was on stage at the O2. She described standing in the middle of the venue with her skirt down, wearing borrowed stage briefs that were not her own underwear. The incident happened during a live performance on the tour associated with the BBC dance competition Strictly Come Dancing.
The broadcaster, who met her husband and dance partner Kevin Clifton on the show, has since built a career on hard-hitting investigative journalism. Her work has taken her from the streets of Luton to conflict zones, where she won a One World Media award for confronting an Islamic State soldier in 2018. She also received an MBE for her services to broadcasting.
Teenage Shoplifting and Questionable Company
Reflecting on her early life, Dooley disclosed that she used to shoplift frequently as a younger person. She listed blue eyeliner and ice poles among the items she took, describing them as necessities at the time. She also mentioned associating with questionable characters during those years.
Dooley left school at the age of 15 and worked as a shop assistant before being selected for the BBC reality series Blood, Sweat and T-Shirts in 2007. This opportunity launched her career as a presenter of documentaries that often focus on social issues. She has since produced three new investigative films for the BBC.
Anxiety and Personal Reflections
Becoming a mother has increased Dooley’s anxiety levels. She described the habit of catastrophizing about everyday situations as grim. Despite these challenges, she maintains a sense of humor about herself, describing her personality as lucky, funnier than people expect, and unorganized.
When asked about her superpower, Dooley said she would like to hear what people say when she is not in the room. She also expressed a desire to bring Dolly Parton back to life. Her most unappealing habit, she admitted, is persistence, noting that she cannot take no for an answer.
Dooley and Clifton have a daughter named Minnie and live in Merseyside. She described love as unconditional, unwavering, and non-negotiable. When asked about the best kiss of her life, she named Clifton, referring to their first kiss in 2019. She also stated that she changes her mind about political leaders frequently, viewing this as a healthy practice.
Her closest brush with the law remains her teenage shoplifting incidents. She emphasized the importance of taking important things seriously while not taking oneself too seriously. Her admiration for Irish boxer Katie Taylor remains strong, and she cited Taylor as the person she would most like to be if not herself.
