Lufthansa is expanding its international network with seven new nonstop routes from its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. The German carrier is reintroducing services to several destinations that were previously discontinued, including Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo Narita. These additions are scheduled to begin in late 2026 and continue into 2027.
Return to Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo Narita
Starting October 25, the airline will operate five weekly year-round flights between Frankfurt and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The carrier will use its 287-seat Boeing 787-9 for this route. Lufthansa previously served this market until 2016, when it ended operations due to high costs and competition from Gulf and Asian carriers. OAG Traffic Analyzer data indicates that approximately 54,000 passengers booked round trips between these two cities in the 12 months leading to June 2026.
The carrier is also resuming service to Tokyo Narita Airport on March 28, 2027. This marks the first time Lufthansa has served Narita since 2017, when it consolidated its Tokyo operations at Haneda Airport. The return to Narita will give the airline three distinct routes to the Japanese capital, creating its widest Tokyo network in a decade. In addition to Narita, Lufthansa is also returning to Chubu Centrair International Airport in Japan.
Winter Services to Finland and Italy
As the peak winter travel season approaches, Lufthansa is adding connections to Finland to support tourism in Lapland. Starting December 4, 2026, the airline will operate two weekly flights from Munich to Rovaniemi. The Airbus A320neo will serve this route, with flights departing Munich at 11:30 AM local time and arriving in Rovaniemi at 3:45 PM. The return flight leaves Rovaniemi at 4:40 PM and arrives in Munich at 6:55 PM.

Lufthansa already serves Rovaniemi from Frankfurt, where it will add a weekly flight this season. The carrier is also increasing its presence in other Finnish cities by adding a second weekly flight between Frankfurt and Kuusamo, as well as second and third weekly connections between Munich and Kittilä.
In Europe, Lufthansa mainline will return to the Munich to Bologna route after more than ten years. Starting October 27, the airline will operate one weekly flight on Tuesdays through December 29. This move comes as the carrier’s regional subsidiary, Air Dolomiti, adjusts its schedule. Air Dolomiti currently operates four daily flights between Munich and Bologna, which will decrease to up to three daily flights during the winter season. The subsidiary also maintains a presence on the Frankfurt to Bologna route with two to three daily flights.
