Apple is preparing to launch its “Welcome Home” event on October 13 at 9 AM ET in New York. The company plans to announce a series of smart home products, including a new dedicated hub, a refreshed HomePod Mini, and an updated Apple TV. These devices will run on a new software platform designed to centralize home automation.
New Apple Home Hub and homeOS
The centerpiece of the announcement is a new smart home hub. Reports indicate the device will feature a 6-inch square touchscreen. It can be mounted on a wall or placed on a countertop. The countertop version is expected to resemble the iMac G4 design, with a screen attached to an arm set into a half-sphere base.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the hub will use voice or facial recognition to identify users. This feature allows the device to pull up relevant contacts, calendar appointments, and other personal data. Apple will offer a secondary identification method using an iPhone to enhance security for personal information.

The device will run on a new operating system called homeOS. Apple has reportedly registered the trademark through a shell company named Home Operations Suite LLC. The interface is described as a blend of iOS, tvOS, and watchOS. It will focus on smart home controls, such as managing thermostats and smart locks, while also supporting FaceTime calls.
The software will include standard Apple applications and widgets. Users can expect access to Apple Music, Podcasts, News, Reminders, Notes, and Siri AI directly from the hub.
HomePod Mini and Apple TV Refreshes
Apple is also updating its existing smart home hardware. The HomePod Mini will receive its first hardware refresh since its launch in October 2020. The design will remain largely unchanged, but the device will get a new processor to support Siri AI. This update will also introduce new color options, including green and pink.

The Apple TV will see its first hardware update since 2022. The new model will feature the N1 chip, which supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 6.0. This processor upgrade aims to speed up navigation, which has been a point of criticism for the current model. The new chip will also enable Siri AI capabilities for the streaming device.
Partner Devices and LG Integration
Apple is expected to highlight partner devices that integrate with the new homeOS platform. LG has already leaked details about its upcoming smart home products, which will include deadbolts and thermostats. These devices will feature an NFC-based “Proximity Control” that displays a hint in the iPhone’s Dynamic Island when held near the device.

The LG products will also support a “tap to set up without power” pairing feature. This simplifies the installation process for users. Apple typically keeps partner announcements brief, focusing primarily on its own hardware and software ecosystem.
Despite rumors, Apple will not be releasing a touchscreen MacBook at this event. Gurman states that the laptop will debut later in the month. The “Welcome Home” event will focus exclusively on smart home products and software updates.
