Caroline Hirons, the 57-year-old beauty entrepreneur and author, has released a new book titled Skin Rules: Expert Advice That You Can Trust. The publication arrives as she reflects on a career that began at the Aveda counter in Harvey Nichols in 1997 and evolved into a global skincare brand and app.
In a recent interview, Hirons shared personal details about her life in London, including her separation and her ongoing management of health issues. She also revealed a specific anxiety regarding her hormone replacement therapy (HRT) supply and named actor Colin Farrell as her current celebrity crush.
Caroline Hirons new book and career milestones
Hirons first gained a wide audience through her blog, which she launched in 2010. Her first book, published a decade later, won the nonfiction lifestyle prize at the British Book Awards in 2021. She followed this success by launching the Skin Rocks app and her own skincare line in 2022.
Her latest work, Skin Rules, continues her focus on providing expert skincare advice. Hirons, who was born in Liverpool and moved to London at age 17, considers her greatest achievement to be leaving school at 15 and subsequently founding two multimillion-pound businesses.
She describes herself as impatient, a trait she admits her team would likely characterize as an understatement. She also acknowledges a habit of interrupting people, which she manages by physically biting her tongue due to her ADHD diagnosis.
Caroline Hirons HRT fears and personal life
Despite her professional success, Hirons faces personal challenges. She is separated and lives with her four children in London. She identifies her marriage ending as her biggest disappointment and notes that she would tell more people to “fuck off” if she could change her past, echoing a sentiment from Helen Mirren.
On a practical level, Hirons expressed fear about running out of HRT. She currently takes progesterone to help her sleep, stating that she is “old, tired” and sleeps well as a result. She does not let things keep her awake at night.
She wears three wedding rings every day: her mother’s, her grandmother’s, and her own. Although she is separated, she keeps her own ring because it represents the time she had her children. When asked about her appearance, she advocates for focusing on what people like about themselves rather than what they dislike.
Caroline Hirons celebrity crush and views
When asked about her celebrity crush, Hirons named Colin Farrell. She added that she hopes he reads the interview, noting she has heard he likes older women. She would cast Queen Latifah as herself in a biographical film, with Denzel Washington playing the role during her menopause years.
Hirons is vocal about her political views. She stated that the majority of old white male politicians are people she despises, though she keeps this opinion private to ensure she can still travel freely. Her list of traits she deplores in others includes misogyny, homophobia, rudeness, greed, arrogance, and ignorance.
She also revealed that she once wanted to be a midwife but changed her mind after having a baby. Her most unappealing habit remains interrupting people, a struggle she manages with physical restraint. She considers the most important lesson life has taught her to be that it is short, urging people to have no fear and to “crack on.”
