Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment have confirmed that the first two seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will be available on physical media this fall. The standard editions, including DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD formats, are scheduled for release on November 3.
This launch provides a tangible option for viewers ahead of the third season, which premieres on Prime Video on November 11. The physical sets will feature behind-the-scenes bonus content, offering additional context for the series that has drawn more than 185 million viewers worldwide since its debut.
November Disc Launch and December Steelbook Edition
The initial November drop includes individual season sets across multiple formats. Collectors looking for premium packaging will have a second opportunity in December. Amazon will release exclusive 4K Ultra HD gift sets on December 1. These editions feature Steelbook packaging and collectible art cards, distinguishing them from the standard retail releases.
The timing of these physical releases aligns closely with the streaming schedule. Season 3 episodes will begin rolling out on Prime Video on November 11, with the remainder of the season arriving by November 25. The physical discs hit shelves eight days before the new season begins streaming.
Season 3 Storylines and Cast Details
The upcoming third season continues the narrative of Middle-earth’s conflict against Sauron. The Dark Lord is depicted recruiting men who will eventually become the Nazgûl. The series has not yet reached the point where the One Ring is forged, leaving significant room for exploration of J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology.
A key plot point involves Elrond and his twin brother, Elros. Actor Robert Aramayo, who portrays Elrond, will also play Elros in a flashback sequence. This scene depicts the brothers choosing different paths: Elrond accepts immortality, while Elros chooses mortality and becomes the founder of Númenor.
The series will also introduce Rivendell to the screen. This addition marks a major expansion of the world-building established in previous seasons. The show first launched on Prime Video in September 2022, with the second season arriving in August 2024.
Amazon has also shared a first look at the latest version of the Dark Lord Sauron. The physical media releases for seasons 1 and 2 provide a comprehensive collection for fans before the new chapter begins.
