The popular retro game emulator Delta has released version 2.0, introducing a major visual overhaul and support for the newly announced iPhone Duo. The update replaces the previous interface with Apple’s Liquid Glass design language, offering a refreshed look that adapts to the device’s form factor.
iPhone Duo Controller Skins and Book Mode
Delta developers have created specific controller skins designed for the unique hardware configurations of the iPhone Duo. These layouts are optimized for various folding positions, including a Nintendo DS-style interface that utilizes the full inner display. The design cleverly spans the hinge when the device is partially folded in book mode while in portrait orientation.
The larger screen real estate of the iPhone Duo allows for more immersive gaming experiences. However, the app also reflows naturally for use on the smaller outer screen when the device is closed in portrait mode. An additional feature mimics the physical behavior of a real DS console by automatically putting the emulator to sleep when the Duo is folded shut.
Split View and Audio Mixing
The update introduces advanced multitasking capabilities for the iPhone Duo. When running in landscape split view alongside another application, Delta can expose the bottom half of the virtual DS as a custom keyboard. This allows the control interface to stretch across the full width of the screen, overlapping unrelated applications such as video players.
Beyond display optimizations, Delta 2.0 adds Sega Genesis ROM compatibility and improved library navigation. The audio settings have been updated to allow game sound to mix with currently playing music or podcasts, addressing a common limitation in previous versions.
The premium version of Delta is available through an in-app purchase subscription on the App Store. Users in the United States, European Union, Brazil, and Japan can also support the project directly via Patreon. The update is available worldwide for all supported devices.
