Fal, a San Francisco-based startup that hosts and runs AI video, image, and audio models, has raised $1.3 billion in its latest funding round. The deal values the company at $16 billion, which is double its $8 billion valuation in April, according to Bloomberg.
The funding round was led by Bessemer Venture Partners. Nvidia, Sound Ventures, and T. Rowe Price also participated in the investment. Fal announced its Series E and Series F rounds simultaneously, noting that a combined $1.65 billion was raised across both stages. Sequoia led the earlier Series E round.

Surging Demand for Inference Services
The latest Series F round comes amid soaring demand for inference services. Inference is the process of running an AI model that has already been trained to generate outputs. This demand is particularly strong from customers relying on open-source models.
Fal surpassed $800 million in annualized revenue earlier this year, according to Bloomberg’s report. The company provides infrastructure for running these models, a sector that has seen rapid growth from competitors such as Baseten, Fireworks AI, and Modal. These companies have also been raising large funding rounds at higher valuations.

Founders and Financial Structure
Fal was co-founded in 2021 by Burkay Gur and Gorkem Yurtseven. Gur is a former Coinbase machine learning leader and Oracle engineer. Yurtseven was previously a developer at Amazon.

Companies providing inference services face specific financial challenges. Their gross margins remain thin because of the high cost of buying or leasing compute power, according to several people familiar with inference companies’ financials.
