Smart has unveiled the #2, a new ultra-compact electric vehicle, at the Paris Motor Show. The reveal marks a strategic shift for the brand, which has released several larger SUV models in recent years. The #2 returns to the company’s roots in miniature mobility, drawing direct inspiration from the iconic Smart Fortwo.
Compact Design and Performance
The vehicle is designed specifically for urban environments. It seats two people and features a rear-mounted 60kW electric motor that delivers 130Nm of torque to the back wheels. To improve stability, the rear tires are larger than the front ones. Smart states that the five-link rear suspension system provides sportier handling and greater comfort compared to previous iterations.
Power comes from a floor-mounted battery pack. The manufacturer claims the car can travel up to 180 miles (290km) on a single charge. Fast charging capabilities allow the battery to go from 10 to 80 percent in just 20 minutes at a compatible outlet. The exterior will be available in various two-tone color options, a nod to the original Fortwo design language.
Interior Features and Trim Levels
Inside, the #2 includes a 10.1-inch central touchscreen and an 8.8-inch digital driver display. The car supports wireless connectivity via 4G, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. It also comes equipped with standard driver assistance systems.

Buyers can choose from several trim levels. The entry-level Pure model includes the standard tech and safety features. The Pure+ trim adds 11kW AC charging and a heated driver seat. The Premium version offers a glass roof, heated leather seats, and a seven-speaker Sennheiser sound system. A limited Couture Edition, restricted to 999 units, will feature a white exterior, a gold-painted roof, and tires with gold detailing.
Pricing and Availability
Smart has not yet confirmed exact pricing or specific delivery dates. However, the company states the starting price will be under $26,500 (£20,000). Preorders are scheduled to open in the spring, with deliveries expected to begin during the summer.
The #2 will not be sold in the United States. Smart has not sold any vehicles in the American market since 2019. The company has not indicated plans to reintroduce its products to the US, where demand for small, budget-friendly electric cars has remained low.
