Bethesda Softworks concluded its annual Fallout Day 2026 celebration on Friday, wrapping up a five-day event that began with community spotlights and giveaways. The publisher used the week to outline a dense schedule of content releases for its post-apocalyptic franchises, focusing heavily on expansions for Fallout 76 and Fallout Shelter.
While details regarding new standalone game projects remain scarce, the event confirmed that existing titles will receive substantial support. Bethesda highlighted the continued vitality of its community-driven ecosystem and announced a new reality competition series tied to the franchise.
Fallout 76 World Pets Update
The most significant gameplay announcement for Fallout 76 is the World Pets update, which marks the game’s 72nd free patch. Scheduled to launch on December 1, this update removes the restriction that previously confined pets to player campgrounds. Players will be able to take companions such as dogs, cats, Radhogs, and Deathclaws into the open world for joint adventures.
Each pet species offers distinct tactical advantages. Dogs utilize their sense of smell to locate medical supplies during combat. Cats, including the Robopaw Steel variant, provide improved bait that guarantees better catches when fishing. Radhogs are designed to sniff out radioactive materials, while Deathclaws serve as heavy combat units that grant players an additional legendary weapon upon clearing infestations.
As players interact with their pets, they can level them up to unlock species-specific perks. These upgrades improve carrying capacity, unlock new buffs, and provide additional customization options. The update also introduces a bounty hunting system in the Skyline Valley region. Players can visit the trading post to speak with Marshall Kane, who will assign missions to eliminate specific factions. This update also brings improvements to the region’s lighting, terrain, and weather systems.
Bethesda noted that Fallout 76 has now been played by more than 25 million players, underscoring the long-term engagement with the online multiplayer title.

Fallout Shelter and Prime Video Expansion
Fallout Shelter is receiving its own pet-focused content later this year. The update will introduce baby Deathclaws as adoptable pets, allowing vault dwellers to care for the iconic creatures. This addition expands the roster of companions available for management within the vault simulation game.
Beyond game updates, Bethesda is expanding the franchise into unscripted television. Prime Video is set to release Fallout Shelter: The Experiment on January 13, 2027. The series is a competition show inspired by the mechanics of Fallout Shelter, where participants must build and manage a vault filled with dwellers. The production involves Studio Lambert, known for Squid Game: The Challenge and The Traitors, working alongside Kilter Films.
Fallout 4 continues to see renewed interest through Verified Creations, a program that highlights community-made mods developed with assistance from Bethesda Game Studios. These creations keep the player base active by introducing fresh ideas and mechanics to the classic title.
The event concluded with a major announcement regarding the franchise’s future milestones. Bethesda confirmed that Fallout Day 2027 will take place in Washington, DC. This physical gathering is part of the celebrations for Fallout’s 30th anniversary, with further details to be revealed in the coming months.
