Apple is expanding its connected home ecosystem through a manufacturing partnership with LG. According to a Bloomberg report, the two companies have been developing a series of smart home accessories that will complement Apple’s upcoming smart home hub. This collaboration marks a formal reboot of the HomeKit platform, aiming to broaden the range of compatible devices available to consumers.
LG-Branded Accessories and Manufacturing
The new lineup includes a video doorbell, a smart deadbolt lock, a thermostat, indoor and outdoor security cameras, and a floodlight camera. Although Apple and LG worked together to design these products, they will carry the LG brand name. LG is responsible for manufacturing and product support, having sought regulatory approval for the devices in recent weeks.

Filings with the US Federal Communications Commission and UL Solutions reveal specific product names such as the LG Video Doorbell Wired, LG Floodlight Cam, and LG Smart Thermostat. These documents also list a temperature sensor and various camera models. LG requested that detailed photos and specifications remain confidential until early next year. The regulatory filings do not mention Apple’s involvement in the development process.
Connectivity Standards and Release Timeline
Most of the new devices will support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and the Matter connectivity standard. The smart deadbolt lock also features ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. This allows for proximity-based features, such as automatically unlocking the door when the user approaches with their phone.
While Apple is set to announce its new smart home hub, an updated Apple TV, and a new HomePod mini next week, the LG-made accessories are not expected to reach consumers for several months. This arrangement allows Apple to quickly expand its ecosystem without bearing the full cost and complexity of producing a wide range of accessories. Apple can shape the design and engineering while keeping the work largely under wraps.

Apple is also planning its own additional offerings in the future. These include a privacy-centric home-monitoring device, a version of its smart home hub that attaches the screen to a robotic arm, and an in-home security monitoring service. The partnership with LG provides immediate momentum to the HomeKit platform while Apple develops these more complex future products.
