Samsung and Google are preparing to release their first pair of smart glasses built on the Android XR platform. According to a report from the Korean business publication Chosun Biz, the devices will become available in South Korea and the United States starting in mid-December. This timing aligns with the holiday shopping season, positioning the product for early consumer adoption.
Intelligent Eyewear Launch Strategy
The upcoming product line will be branded as Intelligent Eyewear. Samsung and Google have finalized this name for the initial release. The launch strategy focuses on two specific markets first. Samsung plans to evaluate consumer response in South Korea and the US before expanding to other regions.
Key markets including China, Japan, and Europe will not receive the glasses at launch. The report indicates that Samsung might introduce the product in these areas during 2027. This phased rollout allows the companies to refine the software and hardware based on early feedback from the initial user base.
Hardware Specifications and Design
Recent leaks have revealed the physical designs of the glasses. The devices are expected to be lighter than Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. This weight reduction is a key selling point for Samsung, aiming to improve comfort for all-day wear. The design does not include an in-lens display. Instead, the glasses rely on audio and camera capabilities.
Under the hood, the glasses run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 chip. This processor supports the integration of Google’s Gemini AI model. The AI system will analyze the surroundings through the onboard camera. The device includes multiple microphones to capture audio clearly. Video recording capabilities are expected to reach 3K resolution.
While Samsung’s previous Galaxy XR mixed reality headset launched last year at a price point of $1,800, these new glasses will cost significantly less. The final price has not been confirmed. Industry observers expect the cost to be around or slightly below $449. This price point matches the starting price of Meta’s third-generation Ray-Ban glasses.
