JetBlue Airways is adding three new nonstop routes to its schedule today, marking a significant expansion of its domestic and Caribbean network. The airline is introducing daily service connecting Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Indianapolis and Columbus, as well as a new link between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
All three new routes will operate daily using Airbus A320 aircraft. The Indianapolis launch represents the first time JetBlue has served the Indiana city, while the return to Columbus, Ohio, restores service to a market the carrier previously served before discontinuing it.
Fort Lauderdale Network Growth
The new services from Fort Lauderdale are part of a broader strategy to increase the airline’s presence in South Florida. Fort Lauderdale has recently overtaken New York JFK as JetBlue’s busiest airport by scheduled departures. This shift is largely driven by the airline’s ability to capture market share left by the collapse of Spirit Airlines.

According to the airline, Fort Lauderdale is now its leading airport, with a share of scheduled seats expected to reach approximately 37% in the fourth quarter. This represents a 14 percentage point increase year-over-year. Peak daily departures from the Florida hub are projected to exceed 150 this winter.
Joanna Geraghty, CEO of JetBlue, emphasized the strategic importance of the expansion in a statement. “We’re building on our already strong foundation by adding more destinations, creating more connections and giving customers even more reasons to choose JetBlue. As Fort Lauderdale’s leading airline, we see an opportunity to continue growing together with this community,” Geraghty said.
The financial impact of this growth has been notable. During the third quarter, revenue per available seat mile (RASM) at Fort Lauderdale increased by nearly 15%, despite capacity growing by more than 65%. The airline also reported a 55% increase in co-branded credit card acquisitions in the region, indicating strong consumer engagement with the expanded network.

Baltimore and San Juan Connection
The third new route connects Baltimore to San Juan’s Luis Munoz Marin International Airport. This service builds on JetBlue’s return to Baltimore in July, when it initially introduced three daily flights to Fort Lauderdale. The addition of San Juan expands the airline’s reach from Maryland and reinforces the importance of Puerto Rico within its Caribbean network.
Officials at Baltimore-Washington International Airport have welcomed the new service, citing the benefits of increased competition and connectivity for travelers in the Mid-Atlantic region. The route provides a direct link between the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and one of the most popular Caribbean destinations in the United States.
Future Premium Expansions
JetBlue plans to further expand its Fort Lauderdale network later this month. On November 19, the airline will launch daily nonstop flights to San Diego International Airport. This route will feature JetBlue Mint, the carrier’s premium business class product with fully lie-flat seating.

This launch gives JetBlue a distinct competitive advantage on the Fort Lauderdale to San Diego corridor, as it will be the only airline offering lie-flat seats on the route. The San Diego service is part of a wider transcontinental push that includes adding Mint-equipped flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco this winter.
The airline aims to offer up to eight daily flights to Los Angeles and three to San Francisco from Fort Lauderdale, although not all of these flights will include Mint service. These moves signal a strategic shift toward capturing higher-yield business and premium leisure travelers, transforming Fort Lauderdale from a leisure gateway into a hub for transcontinental travel.
