Google has officially confirmed the release of a new fitness tracker, the Fitbit Edge, with a launch event scheduled for October 12, 2026. The confirmation came through recent posts on Instagram and X, where the company shared an image of a side button on the device alongside the caption “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26.” The capitalization of the word “Edge” in the caption aligns with previous leaks regarding the product name.
Positioning Between Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5
The new wearable is expected to slot into Google’s hardware lineup between the screenless Fitbit Air, which launched earlier this year, and the premium Pixel Watch 5. This strategic placement suggests the Edge will offer a middle-ground experience, providing more features than the basic Air model while remaining more affordable than the full-featured smartwatch.

Leaked images of the device have circulated since at least August, when 9to5Google spotted an unnamed fitness tracker in marketing materials for the upcoming Pixel 11. However, the specific name and design details were only recently clarified by Android Headlines, which published images showing the built-in apps and health tracking capabilities of the tracker.
Specs and Pricing Details
Further details emerged from a report by the French magazine Dealabs, which confirmed the device’s design and provided additional specifications. The Fitbit Edge is rumored to feature an always-on display, with battery life varying based on usage. If the always-on display is disabled, the device is expected to last up to seven days on a single charge. With the display enabled, battery life drops to approximately two days.

Pricing estimates suggest the device could cost around €179, or roughly $200, when it becomes available in Europe. Given that the Fitbit Air starts at $99 in the US and €99 in Europe, industry observers anticipate the US price for the Edge to land closer to $180. This pricing strategy positions the Edge as a significant upgrade from the entry-level Air model while remaining accessible to a broader consumer base.
The last similarly sized fitness tracker introduced by Google was the Fitbit Charge 6 in 2023. The release of the Edge marks the company’s first major update to this specific form factor in over two years. Analysts suggest the device could serve as a gateway to Google Health Premium subscriptions, encouraging users to adopt a more comprehensive health tracking ecosystem.

Google has not yet released a full specification sheet for the Fitbit Edge. The company is expected to provide more detailed information during the October 12 reveal event. Until then, the focus remains on the device’s positioning as a practical, mid-tier option in the growing wearable market.
