On Sunday afternoon, while former President Trump was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Club, Secret Service agents spotted a man pointing an AK-47 rifle through a chain-link fence near the sixth hole. The individual, later identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, was carrying two backpacks, a GoPro camera, and the firearm. Upon being seen, agents opened fire, causing Routh to flee the scene in an SUV. He was later apprehended by local police on I-95, ending the tense encounter.

The former president was swiftly escorted off the course, and Trump’s campaign quickly issued a statement ensuring that the 45th president was safe. Trump later communicated directly with his supporters, saying, “I will NEVER SURRENDER,” emphasizing that nothing will deter him from continuing his mission.

    Who Is Ryan Wesley Routh?

Ryan Wesley Routh, a native of North Carolina, has a checkered past marked by multiple run-ins with law enforcement. His record includes arrests for drug possession, driving without a license, and a notable 2002 standoff in which he barricaded himself in his office after a traffic stop. Routh later relocated to Hawaii in 2017, where he launched a construction business focused on building housing for homeless individuals.

Routh’s personal history paints the picture of a man who has long been troubled. His LinkedIn profile highlights an interest in creative and mechanical work, but recent years have seen his political activism take center stage. Notably, Routh’s social media posts have revealed a strong disdain for political figures, including Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and Vladimir Putin. His political leanings have been aligned with left-wing causes, and he has donated to Democratic campaigns, including those of former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard.

    Motive Behind the Attack

While the motive for the assassination attempt remains unclear, Ryan Wesley Routh’s political ideology offers some clues. A self-proclaimed “do-gooder” and a frequent critic of prominent political figures, Routh’s posts (now have since been deleted on all social media platforms) have expressed frustration with global political issues, including the war in Ukraine. One tweet from Routh even indicated his willingness to travel to Ukraine and fight against Russian forces, showcasing his passion for international activism.

Additionally, Routh has previously supported Republican candidates like Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy, but he expressed disappointment when they dropped out of the upcoming election. His social media presence suggests a man deeply entrenched in political discourse and willing to act upon his beliefs.

    Trump’s Response

In the wake of the assassination attempt, Trump reached out to his supporters through an email and social media, reassuring them of his safety. He emphasized his determination to continue his campaign, stating:
“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER!”

Trump’s strong response resonated with his supporters, many of whom rallied behind his message of resilience. As the 2024 election approaches, this event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers faced by political figures in today’s polarized landscape.

FBI and Secret Service Ongoing Investigation

The investigation into Ryan Wesley Routh’s actions and motives is still ongoing. Law enforcement officials are treating the case as a serious assassination attempt, and the Secret Service is working closely with local authorities to determine the extent of Routh’s planning and any potential accomplices. The discovery of the GoPro camera and backpacks near the scene suggests that Routh may have intended to record the attack, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

DHS and the Secret Service are closely working with federal, state and local law enforcement partners to learn all of the facts surrounding this incident. The safety and security of Presidential candidates and other protectees is the highest priority for the Secret Service. (2/2)

As more details emerge, the case of Ryan Wesley Routh will likely continue to be a focal point in discussions surrounding political violence and security for high-profile figures.

The Ryan Wesley Routh assassination attempt on Donald Trump is a chilling reminder of the volatile nature of political tensions in the U.S. today. With a long history of criminal behavior and politically charged rhetoric, Routh’s actions have sparked conversations about the increasing threats to public figures.

As the story unfolds, we’ll keep you updated about the ongoing investigation.
